substitute for steam

ok i know this sounds stupid. i have the full cd's for black ops and modern warfare. do i need to use steam to play or is there something else to use, 1= it asks me to download the game from steam, but i have the original discs. and 2= if u get banned from steam multiplayer, how can i get back without having to buy a new key?

Steam is required to play both games. You will need to make a new account on steam, then activate the games product key on the Steam app.
If you do end up getting banned, the only way to play MP again would be to buy a new key. We do have a key vendor on site that offers the keys at over half off the retail price.

ty for reply, but when i want to play multiplayer it starts downloading from the net about 8 gig of download, why when i have the discs? and yes i probably will need 2 new keys for mw2 and black ops, once i get them then do i need to uninstall all and start again?

You can try installing the games to the Steam Dir that they would install to and then once you start Steam see if it shows they are installed rather than trying to download them
The default Dir to install the 2 games are Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common
Once installed correctly and recognized by steam as installed, in the event you get a new key all you have to do is make a new account, with a new email for the new key and active the key in that account. Steam will see the game as already being installed by then
